Carmen Baena studied Fine Arts at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. Born in Granada, she currently resides in Murcia where she has developed most of her career. She currently has an extensive exhibition career in national and international spaces of an individual and collective nature. Her work by him is present in public and private collections, in the Autonomous Community of Murcia and Valencia, Town Halls and Museums such as the Madrid Postal Museum, as well as in various European cities.
She develops her artistic work through marble sculpture, embroidery on paper of various textures and photographic experimentation. It is decisive in all the techniques used by a reflective search for the habitability of the body, time and space. The spiritual and sensory landscapes acquire an important relevance and transport the viewer to an intimate, poetic and enigmatic space. The nature that has surrounded her since her childhood in Granada inspires all her work de ella with the same syncretism that attracted her sensibility from those initial years.
In her concepts, those related to memory take on special prominence; and in the forms, the circle and the glazes sewn with great mastery and subtlety elevate the technique to a sublime category of creation. The perfectly directed swarms of threads seem to suture and heal the wounds caused by the existential abysses that human begings face.
Her white marble sculptures transport the viewer to remote places in the world, flooded with silence, peace and immensity, to which he adds the imprint of the golden color, generating a mysticism that permeates the sacred.
In the apparent simplicity of her works does not rest a reductionist or merely contemplative interest, but rather they are charged with an inherent construction of meanings and metaphorical codes that turn the pieces into an active agent.
In the pre-designed patterns of her thread-sewn papers, each stitch shows the desire to transfer autobiographical experiences related to the moment of learning how to sew. Also intrinsic to them is the defense of manual labor so deeply rooted in her personal creative technique.
The circular aspect, so recurring in all its variants, directs the gaze of whoever perceives it to an expanded time in which they will remain trapped, like the obsessive attitude of the artist towards it. Also captivated by the presence of the green and blue tones of great beauty, which, together with gold, make up Baena’s favorite palette of hers.
Currently her work can be found in galleries such as: La Aurora Gallery (Murcia), Bat Alberto Cornejo Gallery (Madrid), Alba Cabrera Gallery (Valencia), MA Contemporary Art Gallery (Mallorca), Unique Digital Gallery. Also in his studio located in Molina de Segura, Murcia (Spain).
